PREVENTION OF NEW INFECTIONS: It is important for every adult to know his/her HIV status, otherwise, he/she could unknowingly transmit the virus to others. The only way to diagnose the presence of HIV and to get timely treatment is through a simple blood test. The challenge is to make all HIV-infected people in the state aware of their status so that they can adopt healthy lifestyles and prevent the transmission of HIV to others, and to get access to life-saving care and treatment. Thus, counselling and testing services are an important component of prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in Meghalaya. Also, People Living with HIV (PLHIV) are being provided with psychosocial support and linked to treatment and care through Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART).
